Resiliency

The capacity to recover quickly from difficulties; toughness.

So I conducted interviews for work a few weeks back and one of the skill sets we looked for was resiliency. For a while now the word to describe a characteristic we should assess in ourselves, our business and relationships escaped me.  But sitting in front of 20 students and watching their thought processes and critical thinking skills play out it clicked!

I am not resilient when it comes to moving, unpacking and cleaning up.  I get overwhelmed and there are small windows where I can focus and clear a room. 🤷🏽‍♀️. That is factual and has been a challenge my entire life. My mental resiliency in that area is low. It’s not an earth shattering difficulty in the grand scheme of things but it’s difficult for me.

On the flip side, I can stay cool as a cucumber in stressful situations that most people get overwhelmed with. It’s a skill set that makes a great consultant.  Folks look to me for direction when truth is I don’t know what  to do half the time any more than they do. I just process the shock quicker and assess the pieces of the puzzle. I can quickly eliminate scenarios and choose an option to test and am ok with failing fast to get to the best case scenario.

Where are you the most resilient? Where do you need some assistance in focusing?
